Hibiscus (Hibiscus sabdariffa) is the roselle flower, and the fleshy red calyces are the part brewed around the world, from West African bissap to Mexican agua de jamaica. The cup is a brilliant ruby with a cranberry-like tartness that loves a little honey. In traditional use hibiscus tea has been enjoyed to support healthy blood pressure already within the normal range and as a rich source of vitamin C and plant antioxidants. Steep in hot water 5 to 10 minutes; it is naturally caffeine-free and superb over ice. Traditional uses reflect historical practice and are not proven clinical effects.
