Description
Oat tops (Avena sativa) are the immature, milky seed heads of the same oat plant that gives us oatmeal, gathered in the brief window when a drop of white milk presses from the green seed. Herbalists prize them as a gentle, food-like nervine, traditionally used to support a nourished nervous system, calm through periods of stress and depletion, and restful sleep as part of a long-term routine. The flavour is soft, green, and slightly sweet; infuse generously, or steep overnight for a traditional nourishing infusion. Traditional uses reflect historical practice and are not proven clinical effects.
